2002 Grey Mare

Bellissima hails from one of the most storied mare families in Polish Arabian history, tracing back through her dam Bellona, to her grand dam, Polish National Reserve Champion Mare Beliza and her great-grand dam, the unforgettable flea-bitten beauty Beatrice, to the legendary “Queen of Poland” Bandola, a full sister to Bask. In addition to the female line she anchors, Bandola was also the dam of stallions used for breeding, including Bandos, widely regarded as one of the most important stallions to ever grace Janów Podlaski.

Bellisima’s sire, World Champion Ekstern, brings two more crosses to Bandola through her son Banat and her son Bandos’ daughter Pierzeja. When bred together, they produced Piechur, the sire of Ekstern’s dam, Ernestyna. Ekstern had charisma to spare, never failing to ignite the crowd during his storied, undefeated show career. It is a trait that he passes on to his foals in full measure and Bellissima is a splendid example. She joined the Athbah mare band after being purchased in the 2008 Polish auction and has had several outstanding foals in the meantime, including Gold Champion Bint Bellissima and Ibn Eden C, both by World Champion Eden C.
